Of masks and pretenses

It would be great if one could get so allergic to pretense that none of it be tolerated, and it get seared off to leave genuineness behind. But then, maybe some need the mask of pretense in order to carry on, for it may be a bit too much to come face to face with who they really are and what it takes to be themselves…the meaning-making machines that the human race is. Maybe it will take something more to look beyond the mask of pretense and see the one wanting the mask, to see who is actually hiding behind it and what would that person rather be up to. Maybe a little acceptance of that person is all that is needed for that person to drop the mask and come clean with hesitant uncertain steps soon to turn into firm decisive steps and walk, doing what they would rather be doing.
